- "I think it's kind of funny how all the Hives have greenhouses. [...] It's like, the HiveWings wiped out all the trees thinking they were sooo clever, and then after they were done, they realized, oops, plants are kind of useful, actually; maybe we should make some little houses and grow a few. [...] Easy enough once they also stole the SilkWings' fire, I guess."
- — Bryony to Hemlock and Pokeweed about the HiveWings, The Poison Jungle
Bryony is an adult female LeafWing who was introduced in The Poison Jungle. She was formerly a member of the PoisonWings led by Commander Belladonna and Hemlock. The prologue of The Poison Jungle was from her perspective as she helped orchestrate the Burning of Bloodworm Hive, alongside Hemlock and Pokeweed. She currently resides on Pantala and is in a relationship with Grayling.
Description[]
Bryony has green wings[1] and a green tail.[2] She is smaller than Hemlock.[3]
Personality[]
Bryony is quiet and worried.[4] Like most PoisonWings, Bryony is fiercely in opposition to the HiveWings, claiming that they murdered and stole the LeafWing trees. Bryony has a bitter sense of humor, and originally did not care about SilkWings at all, thinking of them as weak and pathetic. However, after meeting Grayling and the rest of the Bloodworm Hive Chrysalis, she changed her mind greatly and felt remorseful over some of her violent thoughts.[5] Queen Snowfall describes her as stupid.[6]
Biography[]
The Lost Continent Prophecy[]
The Poison Jungle[]
In the prologue, Bryony was preparing to burn down Bloodworm Hive along with two other LeafWings, Hemlock and Pokeweed, as well as Grayling. While preparing, she mocked and laughed about how the HiveWings took all the trees and then decided to make little greenhouses to grow plants, with Pokeweed and Hemlock ignoring her chatter. Grayling conversed with Bryony about how grateful he was to the LeafWings for rising up against the HiveWings. They then proceeded with their plan and burnt Bloodworm Hive to the ground.
The Dangerous Gift[]
One of Snowfall's visions was from Bryony's point of view. Bryony, along with the rest of the LeafWings and SilkWings, were hiding in the underground caves of Pantala after the Burning of Bloodworm Hive. She thought of her problems and worried about Grayling. When she woke up, Snowfall felt Bryony's emotions strongly because of her love for Grayling.
The Flames of Hope[]
Bryony had gone into hiding along with Hemlock, Pokeweed, Grayling, and the SilkWings from Bloodworm Hive, Jewel Hive, and Mantis Hive. She was one of the dragons who agreed to go with Luna and her group to the abyss.
Field Guides[]
A Guide to the Dragon World[]
Bryony shared her favorite book in the LeafWing chapter of the guide.
Relationships[]
Grayling[]
After she met Grayling, she could not even think about what would have happened if they had not warned the SilkWings beforehand as she would have lost him forever.[5] Bryony is in love with Grayling, and he thinks she is a hero. She would protect him at all costs, and they are physically affectionate with one another.[1][2] Bryony is reassuring toward him[7] and feels affection for him, believing him to be special and beloved.[4] Bryony does not know how she fell for Grayling, but she will murder anyone who hurts him.[1]
Hemlock[]
Bryony describes Hemlock as "stoic and boring." However, she seems to respect him more than Pokeweed.[5]
Pokeweed[]
Like Hemlock, Bryony thinks of Pokeweed as "stoic and boring." She seems to be competitive with the male LeafWing, jumping to do things before he can.[5]
Sundew[]
Being one year older than her, Bryony grew up with Sundew. When Sundew told her about the Chrysalis, she thought the younger LeafWing had been hit very hard on the head.[5]
