(Not to be confused with Bullfrog, the RainWing medic who appeared in Winter Turning.)
Bullfrog is a male MudWing who was introduced in The Dangerous Gift. He was formerly a member of the stealth team and accompanied them to Pantala in order to fulfill The Lost Continent Prophecy. He was formerly under the control of the othermind and currently resides in the Mud Kingdom.
Description[]
Bullfrog is brawny, strong-looking, and nearly twice the size of the other dragons going on the journey to Pantala.[1][2] He has massive legs,[3] big talons,[4] brown scales,[5] thick wings,[6] and a deep voice.[7] He is about the same size as Pokeweed.[8]
Personality[]
Bullfrog rarely says anything,[9] and when he does say something, his speech is often short. Luna thought that if he had a personality, or any sort of passion for anything, it was buried as deeply as a fossil.[2] When Qibli attempted to joke with him, he was confused,[9] ponderous, and puzzled,[10] and he took Qibli's jokes quite seriously.[11] He is self-satisfied,[12] placid,[13] implacable,[14] stealthy,[9] and often mumbles[6] and speaks slowly[14] on the occasions he does talk.
He also grunts and pauses for long moments of time between thoughts,[15] as he seemed stumped when Cricket asked him about the Scorching, which he then stated that history was not his favorite subject.[16] He was quite ruffled when Pokeweed asked what he was.[17] He dislikes sitting and waiting,[18] and he does not believe that he talks too much.
He was outwardly skeptical of the humans having much intelligence, despite Wren being within earshot;[19] when she called him out on this, he mumbled that he "thought she was different."[20] He also was completely calm in the face of Axolotl's terror towards him,[4] and was impassive despite Wren's protests when he trapped Axolotl under one of his claws.
Despite Wren earlier explaining that humans were just as intelligent as dragons, he referred to Axolotl as an "it" and worried about them escaping.[3] His face was later skeptical as Wren attempted to explain something to him,[21] and he was mildly grumpy after Wren ordered him away from Axolotl.[22] He also seemed skeptical of the ability of leafspeak.[23]
Despite his possible prejudice towards humans, he took it upon himself to hunt for his group whilst traveling through the caverns underneath Pantala.[24] He was also willing to protect Cricket from Pokeweed.[8]
Biography[]
The Lost Continent Prophecy[]
The Dangerous Gift |
---|
Bullfrog was a volunteer chosen by Queen Moorhen to represent the MudWings for the mission to Pantala. When they were getting ready to leave Pyrrhia, Snowfall switched her attention from Sky to Bullfrog because she knew she would not get "sappy and sentimental about him." |
The Flames of Hope |
---|
Bullfrog stayed silent for most of the trip to Pantala. When the stealth team were under attack by a group of mind-controlled HiveWings, Bullfrog stayed with Cricket, Sundew, Luna, Lynx, Wren, and Sky, who were all hidden with the gift of stealth. After the rest of the team were brought back to the Hives, Sundew and Lynx went to rescue the rest of their team while Bullfrog, Luna, Cricket, Wren, and Sky waited for them on Pantala. When Axolotl met them for the first time, Bullfrog captured them so that they would not escape, and when Wren told him to let them go, he said that 'it' might escape. After Wren convinced Bullfrog to let go of Axolotl, Luna noticed that when Wren made him stay away from them, he seemed grumpy about it. Cricket thought of the plan to get a plant to tell Sundew about the message; however, Bullfrog was skeptical of the plant being able to communicate with Sundew. The group then headed towards the abyss, where Bullfrog was pressured into lecturing about the Scorching after Cricket mentioned it in her conversation. On their way into the underground cavern, they ran into Pokeweed, who was confused with who and what Bullfrog was. Bullfrog later followed the stealth team, Bryony, Tau, and Dusky to find the abyss near the human colony. He went back to the underground cavern to wait while Luna and Cricket went forward to see the abyss, and he and Cricket later went to find Sundew at Lake Scorpion after Cottonmouth used Luna to trick Cricket and the others. Bullfrog got injected during the fight between the stealth team and the mind-controlled LeafWings and HiveWings. Bullfrog was freed from the mind-control when Luna severed the breath of evil from Freedom. |
Relationships[]
Cricket[]
Bullfrog implied that Cricket was being noisy whilst thinking, to which she apologized and became quieter.[13] When she excitedly asked about his knowledge of the Scorching, he replied "not much," but after he sensed Cricket's disapproval, he explained it further.[25] When she continued to ask him questions, he stated that he was not her walking history book and hurried away from her.[26] He was however willing to protect her from Pokeweed.[8]
