IceWing gifts are animus-touched items, made by animus IceWings for the good of their tribe. While some gifts are held in the Forbidden Treasury of the IceWing palace, others are much larger and are scattered throughout the Ice Kingdom.
History[]
IceWings, being the first tribe to possess animus magic,[1] developed strict rules to prevent the corruption of their souls. IceWing animus dragons were only permitted to use their power once at a gifting ceremony on their seventh hatching day.[2] The gift was meant to be unique and to benefit their entire tribe. No IceWing gifts have been made in thousands of years, as Arctic was the last known IceWing animus.
Gifts[]
Name | Caster | Enchantment |
---|---|---|
Gift of compromise | Unknown IceWing | A scepter carved from dark blue rock, with small diamonds embedded in it.[3] |
Gift of defense | Unknown IceWing | A huge cliff between the Ice Kingdom and the rest of the mainland, enchanted to shoot icicles at anyone who is not an IceWing[4] or IceWing hybrid.[5] |
Gift of diplomacy | Penguin | Three bracelets, enchanted to let the wearer pass the Great Ice Cliff despite their tribe and keep them warm in the Ice Kingdom, as well as a heated dome near the SandWing border so they do not need to wear the bracelet.[2] |
Gift of elegance | Unknown IceWing | The inner walls of the IceWing palace, enchanted to mimic the weather outside.[6] |
Gift of healing | Diamond | A set of five narwhal horns, enchanted to cure any IceWing of frostbreath wounds.[7] |
Gift of light | Frostbite | The Moon Globe Tree, a frosty white tree claw carved from ice by Frostbite.[8] It is enchanted to grow moon globes, small silver spheres of light that can be picked up and float where they are released.[9] |
Gift of order | Unknown IceWing | A wall in the courtyard of the IceWing palace, enchanted to show every IceWing's name and their current ranking.[10] |
Gift of splendor | Unknown IceWing twins | The IceWing palace, enchanted to grow from the ground and never be cracked, melted, or harmed in any way from the outside.[11] |
Gift of stealth | Unknown IceWing | A pair of diamond-encrusted wristbands.[12] When worn and smashed together three times, the wearer can cause themselves or any other dragon within their line of sight to become totally invisible.[13] |
Gift of strength | Unknown IceWing | A delicate, elegant tiara[14] that grants the wearer super-strength.[15] |
Gift of subsistence | Caribou | Three holes placed in We-Remember-and-Venerate-Caribou, Where-No-Dragon-Goes-Hungry, and Village-of-the-Plentiful-Seals, each enchanted so that if a dragon sticks their claws into it, they will always catch a seal.[16] |
Gift of understanding | Unknown IceWing | Only part of this gift is present in the Forbidden Treasury. It is an unwearable piece of silver metal.[3] |
Gift of vengeance | Diamond | The Diamond Caves, enchanted so that anyone who touches Foeslayer, a NightWing locked inside with animus-touched shackles, with a diamond-tipped spear can unfreeze her. When stabbed again, Foeslayer dies a painful death before being re-frozen. This was later turned into a ceremony called the Diamond Trial.[17] |
Gift of vision | Opal | A ring set with an opal and imbued with Opal's spirit, causing the wearer to experience the perspective of other dragons. Intended for young queens who rose to the throne too soon, to help them grow and become better queens. It cannot be removed from the wearer's claw until its work is done.[18] |
