- "No, I died a long time ago — I created my one animus gift, and then had a long happy normal life as an IceWing. I just left a bit of my spirit in the ring to keep track of the visions and have this last conversation when the ring has finished its work."
- — Opal to Snowfall about the gift of vision, The Dangerous Gift
Opal was an adult female IceWing animus who was introduced in The Dangerous Gift. She is now a spirit who guides inexperienced IceWing queens into becoming more open-minded and assists them in learning important lessons through the gift of vision.
Description[]
Opal was elegant,[1] with unusual scales that had a hint of another color beyond the white in each one, similar to an opal.[2]
Personality[]
When speaking to Snowfall, Opal hid a smile and laughed good-naturedly.[1] She smiled and wished Snowfall luck before disappearing.[3] She was brave enough to take the risk of making the gift of vision unremovable until the queen learned her lessons.
Biography[]
Pre-series[]
The queen of Opal's time was noted to be paranoid and furious all the time, having become a queen before she was ready. She had asked Opal to make a gift for her which would allow her to spy on her enemies, but instead of following her demands, Opal decided to make the gift of vision. After realizing that she could not take the ring off, she had thrown Opal into her dungeons. After a few weeks the ring became loose again, and she forgave Opal and let her free. After the creation of the gift of vision, Opal lived a long, happy, and normal life as an IceWing.
The Lost Continent Prophecy[]
The Dangerous Gift[]
Snowfall constantly yelled at the gift of vision and its creator. She wondered what kind of IceWing animus would do this, along with who would even ask for it.
Opal appeared in Snowfall's vision the night after she returned from Sanctuary. She explained to Snowfall how the ring appeared for queens who were not quite ready to rule and gave her one final vision as Queen Glacier. During the vision, the ring slid off of Snowfall's claw easily and disappeared when it was put back on the pedestal where she first found it. When Snowfall awoke the next morning, the ring had also disappeared from her claw.

"Phrasing unknown." [4] | Gift of vision | It is enchanted to only show up for certain queens who are not ready or need to be taught a lesson to become more open-minded. The wearer cannot take this ring off until they have fully learnt this lesson and it can not be destroyed. It allows the wearer to see visions through other dragons, which makes them more open-minded towards other dragons' situations and circumstances. |
Quotes[]
- "Why do you think I made the enchantment the way it is? She became queen before she was ready, too, and she was so scared and furious all the time. She asked me for an animus gift that would let her spy on all her enemies both outside the kingdom and inside her own tribe. I made her this instead."
