(Not to be confused with Ostrich, Six-Claws's daughter and student of Jade Mountain Academy.)
Ostrich was an adult female SandWing who was introduced in Deserter. She resided in the SandWing stronghold with her family and was a soldier in Burn's army during the War of SandWing Succession, in which she was killed during combat. Before her death, she served as one of Queen Oasis's most trusted guards.
Personality[]
Ostrich was incredibly loyal towards Queen Oasis[1] and showed cautious respect to Burn after Oasis's death.[2] According to Smolder, she was one of the nicer kitchen workers in the SandWing stronghold.[3]

Ostrich was shown with her family, sharing the news of Oasis's new daughter, Blaze. She talked with her husband, Quicksand, about which heir Oasis would get rid of, since she only allowed three heirs at a time. They eventually settled on Oasis's sister, who was an heir that later disappeared. Many years later, Ostrich appeared again on the night Queen Oasis was killed. She showed extreme grief at the death of her queen. She was revealed to have died during the War of SandWing Succession after serving on Burn's side for an unknown amount of time. |

Relationships[]
Oasis[]
Ostrich was one of the Queen Oasis's most loyal guards and taught her dragonets to be just as loyal to their queen as she and her husband were. When Oasis died, Ostrich pushed through the crowd to crouch beside her body.[4]
Six-Claws[]
Ostrich taught her son how to keep watch, fight, and defend his queen at any cost.[5] She was affectionate[1] towards him and wrapped a wing around his shoulders during one conversation.[6] He agreed to become a soldier in the SandWing army partly because he thought that Ostrich would approve.[7]

Quotes[]
- "Did you hear? [...] Another princess hatched today. The queen is calling her Blaze."
- ― about Blaze (Deserter)
- "Her Majesty has always said she'd allow three heirs, no more, [...] So if she keeps Blaze, one of the others has to go."
- ― about Queen Oasis (Deserter)
- "She's creepy, [...] but the one Queen Oasis should get rid of is the other daughter, Blister. That dragon always looks like she's murdering you with her eyes. But it won't be either of them. It'll be the queen's sister, you'll see. She's much closer to challenging Her Majesty than the daughters are. It makes sense to dispose of her."
- ― about Princess Blister and Queen Oasis's sister (Deserter)
- "That's absolutely right, dear, [...] Don't worry, I'm sure she'll be queen for a long while yet. Although whoever comes after her, we'll be loyal to her, too."
- ― about Queen Oasis (Deserter)
