According to Ivy, Pine is one of the nice Wingwatchers, as he brought peaches to the school in Valor after outdoor patrols. He appears to be shrewd, having thought of searching in the old fireplaces in the old village for iron.
While Ivy is talking to Miss Laurel about Pine's banishment, Ivy recalls that Pine was one of the nicer Wingwatchers, as he brought peaches to the kids at Ivy's school. Laurel explains to Ivy that Pine was banished for heading to the old village; Ivy argues that her father heads to the old village all the time, adding that she thinks that Heath made the rule after Pine had gone there. After being initiated into the Truth Seekers, Ivy, Daffodil and Violet vow to find out the truth about Pine's banishment.
During the Wingwatcher welcome ceremony, Foxglove mentions Pine, saying that most people did not talk about him anymore. Violet presses on about Pine and the other banished Wingwatchers, to which Foxglove says it is not safe to talk about them too much.
When Ivy, Daffodil, Violet, and Foxglove head to the old village, the latter reveals that Pine and Azalea are alive. He and Azalea help them find Heath's treasure, but the only thing they find is the dreamvisitor. Pine is later mentioned to have helped Ivy, Daffodil, Leaf, and Stone while the four were on the run from Valor, hiding in the old village.

- "I was just poking around here, searching in the old fireplaces for iron. He came out of the woods and asked what I was doing, and I told him, and he looked very serious and said we'd better get back to Valor. I didn't realize I was in trouble until we got there and he had two of his guards arrest me."
